Welcome to the

Weidman Elementary School

As a team the staff at Weidman Elementary is committed to providing a safe, positive and productive learning environment for our students.  The staff is committed to having each student reach his/her potential.

My name is Shirley Howard and I am the principal at Weidman Elementary.  This is my thirty-eighth year in the Chippewa Hills School District with the last twenty-seven as the principal of Weidman Elementary.  I am also the Superintendent and co-Curriculum Director.  My husband, Harry, is retired after thirty-three years as an administrator in this district.  We have three married daughters (all graduates of Chippewa Hills) and three granddaughters.

Weidman Elementary houses preschool through fifth grade and serves 380 students in these grades.  In addition two sections of the Early Childhood Program (formally PPI) is housed at Weidman serving 24 students from throughout the district.  Students go to their classrooms at 7:20 A.M. with instruction beginning at 7:30 A.M..  Students are dismissed at 2:27 P.M.

The staff sets high expectations for both academics and behavior.  Student achievement is our primary focus.  You will find that MEAP scores are above the state average in every area.  Weidman has a building discipline plan, which is communicated to parents at the beginning of each year.  However the emphasis is not on the negative but instead on the positive.  Students are rewarded each month for appropriate behavior and award assemblies are held twice a year.

We know that parent involvement increases a student’s academic success.  Therefore, we urge each parent to become knowledgeable about the learning expectations for your student’s classroom and to work with your child’s teacher to promote learning at home.  We encourage parents to attend parent teacher conferences, to volunteer in classrooms, attend parent club meetings and to help with and/or attend special events.

If you should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at school  (989) 644-3430 or home 644-3023.  Once again welcome to our school!

Sincerely,

Shirley Howard
