Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Awards and From the Top
Will be providing approximately 20 students ages 8 - 18 with:
-A performance on From the Top's radio program
-A $10,000 scholarship
-Cultural Leadership Training

Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Awards
Will also be providing approximately 5 students ages 8 - 13 with:
A $5,000 scholarship

To be eligible for either award, applicants must:
-Be pre-college classical musicians between the ages of 8 -18
-Have a high level of musical achievement
-Have a solid academic record
-Have Demonstrated financilal need

The Seventh Annual Music Student Scholarship

Entry Rules: Write in 250 words (or less) "How My School Music Program Contributes to the Quality of Life in My Community" Ten $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in two categories. Five $1,000 scholarships to students in grades four to eight and five $1,000 scholarships to students in grades nine through twelve. Equal merchandise prizes contributed by Alfred Publishing Co., Hershey's Fund Raising, Yamaha Corporation of America, and Acedis Zildjian Co. awarded to schools of winning entrants.

How Do I Enter?: Visit supportmusic.com and click on Essay Contest 2008, or submit your entry to Student Scholarships, SCHOOL BAND AND ORCHESTRA, 21 Highland Circle, Needham, MA 02494. Along with the essay, please furnish the following information: Name, Address, City, State, ZIP, Telephone, Age, Grade, Instrument Played, Name of Music Teacher/Director, Name of School, Address, City, State, XIP.

Enteries will be judged by SBO Magazine Editorial Board and a panel of music professionals. Essays must be submitted by December 31, 2007.

 

The Michael Kamen Solo Award

"The Michael Kamen Solo Award" is given to exceptionally talented individual students in grades 8 - 12 who cannot afford a suitable instrument that will further their career in music. This award is given in memory of Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation founder and inspiration Michael Kamen. Students interested in applying for this award should call our office at 818.784.6787.
