This lake is the third largest Great Lake and the sixth largest freshwater lake in the world.

Bordered by: states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin
(only Great Lake entirely in the United States)
Also, Lake Michigan is joined to Lake Huron by the Straits of Mackinaw and is therefore hydrologically inseparable from it.
