This light and its partner, the rear range light, guided vessels into the West channel of Grand Island Harbor.

LOCATION: West side of entrance to Munising Harbor, S side of Lake Superior

DEACTIVATED: Unknown --- A 1998 book says that a modern structure at this site is still active, but there is nothing listed in the USCG 2000 Light list.

TOWER SHAPE: Frame tower --- 19ft. tall

ORIGINAL LENS: Lens lantern

NEAT CHARACTERISTICS: The last light list I have that contains the Front Range Light is the 1954 USCG Great Lakes Light List shows it to be a "white daymark on mast, with a tank house alongside".
