This lake is the largest, deepest, coldest and most pristine of the Great Lakes and the largest of any freshwater lake in the world.

Bordered by: states of Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin and the province of Ontario, Canada

Shoreline: 2,980 miles of shore that is as harsh and untameable as the coasts of Maine and California

Special Features: Soo Locks --- 5 locks that move ships thru St. Mary's River Rapids
which drop about 20 feet in a half a mile.

along much of Minnesota's Northern shore.
